    Tsuga essential oil is extracted by using steam distillation process from needles and twigs of the conifer trees. The bark was used to make poultices. It has an active chemical compounds such as bornyl acetate, beta phellandrene, limonene, alpha pinene, 3-carene, beta pinene, myrcene and sobornyl acetate. This oil possesses grounding, fresh, earthy and woody aroma. The color of the oil ranges from yellowish to colorless. Tsuga tree grows upto 28-31 meters in height having yellow to brown twigs and small cones. This evergreen and coniferous tree is inherent to Eastern North America.

In US, it is found in Alabama, Minnesota, Georgia, Indiana and Appalachian Mountains. It is also known as Eastern hemlock and Canadian hemlock. Tsuga tree grows up to the height of 28-31 meters. It was used by Native Americans for its medicinal properties. The poultice was made from needles of tree that is used to treat pain and heal wounds. The twigs are boiled and made tea that is used to treat gastrointestinal and digestive problems. It is widely used in Ayurveda and Chinese herbal medicine to prevent the health ailments.
