    Understanding the Dental Implant Process

To date, implants are the best solution for people with missing teeth, with a 97% success rate on the procedures. However, what you need to know is that getting a tooth replaced with an artificial implant is as critical as other types of surgeries. In any case, you need to prepare and secure a competent specialist in dental implants.

    What Does the Process Involve?

You will not visit the dentist on the first day and have the procedure done. It all starts with the development of cavities or tooth decay, a problem whose one of the commonly opted solutions is taking the tooth out. After plucking, you need to take some time off and allow the gum to heal before implantation. Once the bone fully heals, it is time to think about the implant.

The process goes in steps as outlined here.

    1. Initial consultation

You have to meet with the specialist first before you proceed with the procedure. The meeting allows the dentist to check the condition of your mouth. Scans are necessary to enable the expert to determine the best treatment plan. The patient also gets an opportunity to ask questions about the procedure.

    2. Pre-procedure examination

By this time, you are sure you want to proceed with the process. The doctor will carry out the final analysis of your condition, after which one is ready for the implant. At the end of this examination, you can now schedule the date and time for the process.

    3. The implant procedure

A specialist can complete the process in an hour. However, if you are doing multiple dental implants, it may take more time. At the end of the procedure, you will have a new tooth that looks like a real tooth. The comfort may not be there immediately as some soreness will follow, but only for a few days. The specialist will give you temporary crowns to help you chew while you heal.

    4. Post-procedure checkup

You will not go home and assume everything is fine. Although there are minimal chances of complications if the specialist did the procedure right, your dentist must monitor the progress. Most will assign specific dates when you can get back, or instruct you to consult them in case of strange symptoms.

    5. Fixing the permanent tooth

The final step may come after complete healing, which can take a few months. The dentist will remove the temporarily fixed crowns and set a permanent artificial tooth. After this, you get everything back to normal, and you will be allowed to eat all foods.

Why Should You Opt for the Implants?

Other than getting back your natural smile, there are several other benefits of dental implants. Some of them include:

    • It becomes easy to eat– Chewing can be challenging with dentures.
    • Implants will improve your speech– People with multiple gaps may find it difficult to pronounce some words or speak without slurred words.
    • Improving self-esteem– Your esteem is bound to go low if you have gaps, especially if it is the front teeth.

Having a dental implant has more pros than harm if the procedure gets done expertly.
